Shots Fired Inside Tysons Corner Center

Officers on scene for shots fired at 7900 Tysons Corner Center. A fight broke out between two small groups, one man displayed a firearm and fired three shots from the weapon. No one was shot.

“It makes our hearts sink down to the pit of our stomachs,” said Police Chief Kevin Davis of gun violence in a shopping area known to be a safe place.

Saturday, Fairfax County Police responded to an incident of gun violence where shots were fired at Tysons Corner Center. This occurred during peak mall hours, terrifying countless patrons and putting thousands at risk,” said Chairman Jeff McKay. “Thankfully, this situation ended with no shooting victims nor serious injury.”

McKay added he was confident in law enforcement preparedness for such a situation because he had participated in an active shooter drill in a mall in the past. “Mall management, residents, and visitors were also critical in ensuring that this situation resolved peacefully.”

The mall was closed for the day and evening Saturday after the incident, but reopened on Sunday.

“We need comprehensive gun safety measures to keep this violence in check and guns out of the hands of people who wish to cause harm,” McKay said. “I hope my federal and state partners recognize that more needs to be done.”
